6th Aug, 2016: ICSSR sponsored one-day National Seminar on “Challenges of Social Security and Social Inclusion for Inclusive Growth in India”.

 
Post-graduate Government College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh organised an ICSSR sponsored one-day National Seminar on “Challenges of Social Security and Social Inclusion for Inclusive Growth in India”. The Seminar was organised by PG Departments of Economics and Sociology. Prof. M.P.S Ishar, Vice-Chancellor, Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University, Bhathinda was the Chief-guest on the occasion, and Prof.Pramod Kumar, Chairman, Punjab Governance Reforms Commission and Director, IDC, Chandigarh was the guest of honour.
More than 300 delegates registered for the seminar and more than 50 Research papers and articles were presented on diverse sub-themes like conceptual issues, growth and inequalities, sustainable growth, equality of opportunity, marginalisation practices, empowerment of marginalised groups, financial inclusion of all, programmes and schemes of the government etc.
Welcoming the guests, Prof.Anita Kaushal stressed that social security and social inclusion are a need of the hour so that the nation can achieve inclusive growth. She felt that the deliberations and reflections of the seminar shall definitely result in providing fruitful measures in this direction.
In his Key-note address, Prof.PramodKumar observed that consumerism drives the attention away from the real issues, current path of development is perpetuating inequalities and there is policy-induced exclusion in society. He perceived that growth in GDP doesn’t lead to distributive justice and suggested that development should balance growth with equity.
In his address, Prof.Ishar observed that lack of inclusion and security leads to many problems. He felt that many people are capability-poor and therefore necessary training and inclusion of skilled persons in production process is essential. The solutions aimed at development are creating more problems related to social exclusion.Prof.NirupmaLuthra proposed the vote of thanks.
Faculty members, research scholars and students got the opportunity to interact with eminent scholars and experts. The Panel Discussion was coordinated byProf. Sherry Sabbarwal, Chairperson, Deptt. Of Social Work, PU, Chandigarh.PanelistsProf.Sucha Singh Gill, South Asian Studies CRRID, Chandigarh;Prof.S.L.Sharma, IDC, Chandigarh; Prof.M.M.Goel, Dean Colleges, KU, Kurukshetradeliberated upon the various sub-themes and components of the topic.
Prof.Satish Sharma, Gen. Secy., NWISA chaired the technical session wherein research papers were presented by delegates from across the region.
Prof.Ronki Ram, Dean Faculty of Arts& Honorary Director ICSSR, North West Regional Office, Chandigarh, delivered the Valedictory address. Congratulating the departments for organising seminar on a pertinent theme, he emphasised that social security and need for inclusion are the most primary dimensions for development of the nation.
On this occasion the proceedings of One-day Faculty Development Programme held earlier on ‘Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, Indian Constitution and Indian Society’ compiled by Dr.Desh Raj Sirswal from Deptt. of Philosophy  was also released by the chief-guest and other dignitaries.
