11-17 Oct, 2016: 7 Day/Night NSS Camp
Valedictory function of the Seven Day/Night hosted by NSS units of PG GCG, Sector-11, Chandigarh from 11th to 17th Oct 2016 was held today. Prof Anita Kaushal, Principal of the college was the Chief Guest for the occasion.
Presenting the report, Prof Jamit Kaur, NSS Coordinator informed that 200 NSS volunteers participated in the camp. The theme of the camp was Health, Hygiene and Sanitation.
During the seven days, a massive cleanliness and sensitisation drive was carried by the NSS volunteers in Khudda Jassu, the village adopted by the college. A rally on Swachh Bharat and Skits on De-addiction, Women Empowerment and Cancer awareness were performed by the students. The volunteers joined the efforts of village Panch Mrs. Paramjit Kaur in making the villagers aware about the need for a clean toilet in every home.
During the camp, lectures by eminent personalities working in the field of social work were arranged. Dr Bikram Rana, State Liasion Officer, NSS, Dr.Nirmal Jaura, Director Youth Welfare, Panjab University, Chandigarh, Dr Vandana Aggarwal, Medical Officer, Chandigarh Administration, Prof Gaurav Gaur, Department of Social Work, Panjab University, Chandigarh and Prof Renu Somal from Department of Psychology were the main speakers. Mr Raman, Yoga Instructor guided the daily yoga sessions held in the college and Dr. Akshita from GCMH Sector 16, Chandigarh held regular Medical check-up for the volunteers and Ms Shikha, Counsellor from the college held cancelling sessions for the Volunteers.
During the camp, various activities such as declamation contest, make-up competition, best out of waste and poster making competitions were held.
A cultural programme was organised in which students performed Gidda, Bhangra, skits and songs on the valedictory function. Speaking at the Valedictory function, Prof Anita Kaushal appreciated the efforts of the NSS programme officers and volunteers and urged them to work for the welfare of society.
