4th Nov, 2016:Cultural Society the college in collaboration with SPICMACAY and Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Akademi organised a Music Concert.
4-11-2016: Cultural Society of P. G. Govt. College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh in collaboration with SPICMACAY and Chandigarh SangeetNatakAkademi organised a Music Concert today. Padam Shree Pt. Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, International Grammy Awardee gave presentations on Mohan Veena. The concert was presided over by Sh. Kamal Arora, Chairman, Chandigarh SangeetNatakAkademi and Prof. Anita Kaushal, Principal of the college. Sh. S.D. Sharma, Vice-Chairman of Chandigarh SangeetNatakAkademi and Mrs.Anjana Gera, Coordinator, SPICMACAY also graced the occasion.
Pt. Bhatt has performed in more than 80 countries including USA, USSR, Canada, Britain, Germany and France. He was awarded the Grammy Award in 1994, SangeetNatakAkademi Award in 1996 and Padamshree in 2002. He has also been awarded with Musical Scientist Award, SwarSiromani, MahakalSamman, Tantree Award and has many more decorations to his credit. Pt. Bhatt has also been granted Honorary Citizenship of USA and Canada.
Pt. Vishwa Mohan started his presentationwith alap, jod,jhala,vilambitand drut gatfollowed by composition inRaga NatBhairav in teen taal.He was accompanied by Sh. HimanshuMohant, a well-known tablavadak of the country. He also played his composition for which he was awarded the Grammy Award. In the light music compositions, Pt. Vishwa Mohan Bhatt presented Raghupatiraghav raja ram and Vaishnavjantetainekahiye. His compositions of Vandemataramand I love India went well with the National Integration Week celebrations already going on in the college. The students sang omtana-num, amantra composed by him which is also being used for therapeutic purposes. All the compositions were thoroughly enjoyed by the faculty and students, and left the audience spell-bound.
This was followed by a highly interactive session, wherein students asked questions from the maestro and sought his guidance and blessings. Pt. Bhatt said that today’s performance in PGGCG-11 has been his best till date. He highly appreciated the singing potential of the students of the college and assured that he would invite them to sing chorus with him in his studio.
The concert was a grand feat and was successful in serving the purpose of preserving and popularising the rich and diverse cultural heritage and making the youth of the present generation more aware and capable of appreciating it, which are the core objectives of the Cultural Society of the college and SPICMACY.
