7th Feb,2017:A Lecture cum Workshop on “Importance of Medicinal and Herbal Plants and their vegetative propagation”.

07-02-2016: Under the able guidance of Prof. Anita Kaushal,Principal, a Lecture cum Workshop on “Importance of Medicinal and Herbal Plants and their vegetative propagation”,sponsored by Medicinal Plant Board, Deptt. of Forests and Wildlife, Chandigarh Administration was organised by Prakriti-The Environment Society and Department of Botany of PG Govt. College for Girls, Sector-11 today. Chief Guest Mr. Santosh Kamar, IFS, Conservator Forests and Chief Executive Officer, Medicinal Plant Board inaugurated the function along with the other distinguished guests, by planting saplings of various medicinal plants like Rudraaksh, Maulsari, KanakChampa etc.
In his inaugural address he gave a brief view of the Medicinal Plant Board and nurseries where 80 varieties of medicinal plants were being grown. During the first technical-session, a very valuable talk was given by Vaidya Madan Gulati on “Health through common Medicinal Plants”.He highlighted the utilities and health benefits of Harad, Arjun, Bael, Haldi, Tulsi, Aloe Vera, Kalmegh, Chitrak, Vaasa etc. In the Second session of the day, a workshop was conducted by Mr. Om Parkash, Coordinator, Eco Clubs of Chandigarh. He demonstrated the propagation of medicinal plants with regard to season, mode of cultivation and the various optimum conditions required for their growth.
Photo exhibition and Herbarium specimen prepared by the UG and PG students were displayed outside the auditorium. This function was attended by the faculty from the different colleges and Eco Club Incharges of various schools.Principalof the college,Prof. Anita Kaushal, congratulated the organisers and motivated the students and faculty for making use of herbs and medicinal plants as they are readily available and environmentally friendly.
