The Prevention and Redressal of Sexual Harassment committee of PG GCG-11, Chandigarh, organised a one day capacity building workshop sponsored by State Project Directorate (RUSA), UT, Chandigarh on "SEXUAL HARASSMENT AT WORKPLACE:PREVENTION AND ACTION"today.
Principal, Prof. Anita Kaushal, welcomed Prof. Pam Rajput an eminent academician and world renowned activist for women rightswho was the main resource person for the day. She was accompanied by Prof. Ameer Sultana, Chairperson, Department cum Centre for Women's Studies & Development, PU, Chandigarh.More than 50 delegates from the colleges of the city participated in the workshop.
During the first session Prof. Pam Rajput traced the genesis of TheSexual Harassment of Womenat Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 and outlined the various provisions of CEDAW and those of the said Act. She dwelled upon the meaning and definition of sexual harassment, workplace, aggrieved women and need of the formation of Internal Complaints Committee in every institution. She elaborated the process to be undertaken after the filing of the complaint, and various do’s and dont’s  for the committee. She cited various landmark cases including Bhanwri Devi, Vishakha Judgement along with some incidents reported from the local institutions.
In the second session Prof. Pam Rajput and Prof. Ameer Sultanareviewed the various provisions of the Actalong with the participants. Case studies were discussed and the members   of faculty were apprised how to deal with the complainant and the respondent.
The members felt greatly enriched by the discourse and interactive session. They expressed that nowthey would be in a better position to handle such cases. The workshop ended by chalking out a future course of action for the members of the committees of Prevention of sexual harassment at workplace of different colleges.
