8th Mar, 2017: Celebrated International Women’s day by organising a talk and panel discussion on the theme ‘Be Bold for Change’

 
“Hum Hain”  society for gender Equality and Non-Discrimination, “Nostalgia”, Alumni Association of PG Govt. college for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh in partnership with CONSULATE GENERAL OF CANADA along with Department of Sociology, Women’s Studiesand Human Rights and Duties of PG Govt. college for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh celebrated International Women’s day by organising a talk and panel discussion on the theme ‘Be Bold for Change’.
Mr. Christopher Gibbons, Consul General, Consulate General of Canada was theChief Guest on the occasion. In his address he highlighted the inequalities, exploitation and gender discrimination faced by women globally. He stressed that Canada is moving towards a gender equal societybygranting women, access to quality education, health services and maternity benefits along with ensuring wage equality and making women centric laws.
A stage show- “Ek-Udaan”was organised to highlight the present condition of Indian women and their spirit to fight back against discrimination and oppression.
It was followed by a panel discussion and the eminent panellist were Ms.AlineBrault, Ms.Neelam Gulati Sharma, Ms.Astinder Kaur, Ms.Puneet Singh and Ms.NeekamalPuri. The theme for the panel discussion was ‘Be Bold for Change’and the panellists shared their personal and professional experiences and challenges. They also stated the ways in which they overcame the challenges. The intriguing queriesof the students relating to women’s issues were suitably answered by the panellist. They encouraged the students to face the challenges boldly and maintain a never say die spirit.
In the end Prof.NirupmaLuthra proposed a vote of thanks.
