The staff and students of Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh celebrated Republic Day with gaiety and fervour today. Prof. Anita Kaushal, Principal of the college unfurled the national flag. Prof. Rama Arora, Dean and Mr. Kanwar Iqbal Singh, Vice-Principal of the college were also present on the occasion.
Students expressed their views on the significance of freedom in the contemporary context and the progress of India after becoming a republic. They narrated examples of India’s glorified tradition and also highlighted the achievements in various domains. Group and solo songs by the students of Music Department made the atmosphere nationalistic. Group dance by the students of Dance Department stirred a spirit of patriotism.
The occasion of Republic Day became more joyous for the college and students when six visually impaired students were felicitated with Talking Digital Pocket Daisy Player worth Rs. 59,220/- sponsored by Rotary Club of Wyndham, Australia in collaboration with Kirpal Singh Chauli Trust, Australia. The students are: Ms.Yogita and Ms.Poonam of B.A.-I; Ms.Kavita Rani and Tulsi Bhardwaj of B.A.-II; and Ms.Manpreet Kaur and Ms.Manisha of B.A.-III. Blind and visually impaired students will now have access to pocket-sized book players integrated with OCR text-to-speech to capture and read aloud hardcopy printed documents.
Addressing the students on this occasion, Prof. Anita Kaushal motivated them to make an appropriate use of freedom without infringing others’ freedom. She stressed that patriotism and nationalism should not merely be decorative, rather they should be understood in their true spirit. She urged the students to dream impossible dreams to help India soar new heights.
