29th Jan 2018: PGGCG-11 in collaboration with Indian Council of Cultural Relations organised Sitar Recital by renowned artist Pt. Dr. Harvinder Sharma
Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh in collaboration with Indian Council of Cultural Relations organised Sitar Recital by renowned artist Pt. Dr. Harvinder Sharma. Mrs. Nalini Singhal, Regional Director of ICCR, Prof. Anita Kaushal, Principal of the college, Prof. Rama Arora, Dean and Mr. Kanwar Iqbal Singh, Vice-Principal graced the occasion. Dr. Sharma was accompanied by Sh. Jayadev, an ‘A’ grade artist of AIR and Doordarshan on tabla.
A disciple of UstadVilayatHussain Khan of Imdadkhanigharana, Dr. Harvinder has a distinct style of elaborating khayalang on Sitar. A winner of innumerable awards, he has participated widely in prestigious AkashvaniSangeetSammelans and programmes in India and abroad. He was selected by ICCR as a lecturer cum performer and deputed to Jawaharlal Nehru Cultural Centre, Embassy of India, Moscow from March 1989 to September, 1992.
Dr. Sharma began his recital with Raga AhiriTodi. Prior to the vilambit and drut gats, he introduced the nuances of the ragas to the students. He gave appropriate examples of ghazals and folk songs etc. He also manifested his finesse in singing by presenting the vocal rendition of a Punjabi composition “çhannamereya” in the same raga. He concluded his recital with some light compositions like “Gobind bolo”, “neelaaasmaanpayajimaine” etc.
The faculty members and students benefitted immensely from the performance of Dr. Sharma.
