22nd Jan, 2016: college has been adopted under “Faculty Training and Motivation and Adoption of Schools and Colleges by CSIR Labs”

 
Faculty of Science organised a One day National Seminar on “Fascination of Light and Photonics for Life” as a part of Celebration of  International Light Year on 22.01.2016 to promote science and higher education. On this occasion a historic agreement between CSIO Director Dr. R.K Sinha and Principal PGGCG-11 Prof. Anita Kaushal has been signed in which the college has been adopted under “Faculty Training and Motivation and Adoption of Schools and Colleges by CSIR Labs” scheme of Human Resource Development Group, CSIR, New Delhi for promotion of Science and Research as career for youth.

Under this adoption umbrella, CSIR-CSIO would emphasize on creative learning pedagogy for students and organize training and development programmes for the faculty. It further opens the doors of this laboratory for visits and interaction of faculty and students of PGGCG-11 for various activities. CSIO experts and invited speakers will deliver talks on various topics related to varied aspects of science in PGGCG-11, chd.

Chief guest Dr. R.K. Sinha, Director, Central Scientific Instruments Organisation, Chandigarh, delivered the key note address on “Fibre Optics: Enabling Science and Technology”.Later Dr.Devinder Ghai Scientist G, Associate Director (HRD), Laser Science and Technology Centre(DRDO), Delhi delivered  a lecture on“Medical Applications of Lasers for Life”.Terminal Ballistic Research Laboratory (TBRL) exhibited the latest state of art photonics experiments and diagnostic techniques for students. The fascination of optics for Life was visible in all the demonstrated techniques.

As many as 300 students and 100 faculty members from institutes of repute like ISSER, CSIO, TBRL, IMTECH, Panjab University, Punjabi University and various colleges participated in the deliberations. Various Inter college events such as Poster presentation competition (for research scholars, for PG students), Power point presentation and model making competition were organised which were judged by the panel of Judges. These posters, presentations and science models were very informative, educative, inspiring and it demonstrated the innovative skills of the students.
