19th Feb, 2016: Talk cum Demonstration on Road Safety
The Road Safety and Traffic Awareness Society of Post-graduate Government College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh organised a Talk cum Demonstration on Road Safety today. More than 350 students and faculty members along with the Dean and Vice-Principal attended the presentation. Chief Marshall, Mr. C. S. Grewal was the key-note speaker on the occasion. He highlighted the major rules related to road safety. He also narrated the common mistakes and offences committed by the riders, drivers and pedestrians. Safety is in the hands of the person himself, Mr. Grewal stressed; and being unsafe is harmful to oneself and to others as well.
Marshall R.L.Gupta, Marshall, Ms. Uma Mahajan also addressed the gathering and highlighted some cases of common violations. Officials from Chandigarh Traffic Police, Inspector Geeta Devi, SI Sukhwinder Singh, Head Constables Mr.Bhupinder Singh and Mr.Rajinder Kumar and other officials were also present to interact with the students and clear their doubts. The Traffic Police also displayed traffic signboards and their explanations for generating awareness. They also distributed reading material and pamphlets amongst the students so that they become well-versed with the traffic rules and drive safely. A movie showing risky driving that causes accidents was also shown to demonstrate the significance of traffic rules and observance of road safety. However, the main highlight was the musical performance by Head Constable Mr.Bhupinder Singh to send the sensitive message regarding safe driving across the students.
