The Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh, organized an Orientation Programme on 21.07.2023 for its first-year undergraduate students from diverse disciplines. The main objective of this orientation was to familiarize the students with the college’s existing practices and regulations. Prof. (Dr) Anita Kaushal, the college’s Principal, warmly welcomed the students and proudly showcased the institution’s remarkable achievements in both academics and extracurricular activities.
Throughout the program, the students received comprehensive guidance on several essential aspects, including fee concession, bus-pass facilities, library resources, opportunities in NSS and NCC, available scholarships, subject change policies, the role of the placement cell, and the essential Do’s and Don’ts to be observed within the college premises. Additionally, they were informed about the mandatory lecture attendance requirement of 75% for all subjects and the significance of the Mid-semester Examination.
The students were also introduced to the various societies operating within the college, each dedicated to organizing community-centric and sensitization activities. These societies focus on diverse areas such as Traffic Awareness and Road Safety, Preservation and Protection of Heritage, AIDS Awareness, Community Hygiene and Sanitation, Drug De-addiction, Gender Equity, Best from Waste, and Environment Awareness.
The primary aim of these societies is to foster the holistic development of students by actively involving them in both on-campus and off-campus initiatives. Furthermore, the students were introduced to the in-charges of college-committees and informed about their respective room numbers where they will be available.
Earlier, the Environment Society of the college, known as PRAKRITI, celebrated Van Mahotsav by organizing various activities like a tree plantation drive and Pot painting. The students took a pledge to safeguard mother Earth during this event. In a bid to promote ecological diversity and well-being, the society planted saplings of various medicinal plants such as Brahmi, Imli, Amla, Kapoor, kala vasa Raatki Rani, etc. These initiatives highlight the college’s dedication to nurturing responsible and environmentally conscious individuals.
