SAARTHI, The Counselling Cell of PGGCG 11, Chandigarh commemorated World Suicide Prevention Day under the dynamic guidance of Madam Principal, Prof (Dr.) Anita Kaushal, on 10th September 2024, at the Nescafe Area with the theme “Changing the Narrative on Suicide,” focusing on “Starting the Conversation.” The event saw a footfall of 500-600 students and featured activities designed to foster dialogue and support for mental health.
A key highlight was the “Your Best View” mirror, which encouraged participants to reflect on their positive attributes, promoting self-worth and combating negative thoughts. The “Drop Your Baggage” corner allowed attendees to anonymously share their struggles and receive encouraging notes, reducing stigma and offering comfort.
A counselling enrolment booth provided access to support, ensuring attendees could connect with mental health resources. Interviews with peers and faculty shared personal insights and motivational stories, helping to normalize discussions about mental health.
Post Graduate students made special contribution by conducting various activities: Counselling desk offered on-the-spot support, Art therapy served as an emotional outlet, Free Hugs provided physical comfort and a Positive message exchange fostered mutual encouragement. Overall, the event effectively promoted mental well-being, reduced stigma, and encouraged open conversations about suicide prevention.
