About Library
Postgraduate Govt. College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh is a premier front runner educational institute of the country established in 1956 to impart quality education to the young women of the country. Library plays a very important role to fulfil this aim. Library is the main part of this institution as it satisfies the required information need of student and staff. In College library the library users are students, teaching staff and non- teaching staff.
The Library of this college is situated at first floor. Library has an automated RFID along with vast compendium of 96328 books. In addition to this the library subscribes to 86 magazines, 38 subject journals and 15 newspapers in Hindi, English and Punjabi to keep the students and staff abreast with current affairs home and abroad.
Library has INFLIBNET facility to access E-Books & Journal and OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) facility is available in the library for staff and students through which they can search the books through various approaches like author, title, accession number, publisher, subject, or a combination of these.
Every section is under the surveillance of CCTV cameras. Fire extinguishers are installed in the library buildings to meet regulatory requirements and to allow trained employees to attempt to extinguish small fires.
A Braille corner is set up for the visually challenged students. JAWS-talking software has been installed in the library and Braille sheets are distributed free of cost.
Free Internet facility is available in the library for the students.
INFLIBNET N-List facility is provided to access e-journals and e-books to the faculty, post graduate students and research scholars. The library has also got institutional membership of National Digital Library of India (NDLI) for all faculty members and students.
There is a faculty research centre equipped with computers with internet access for teachers engaged in research work.
The library also has an Alumni Desk where old students of the college are registered in the Alumni Association- Nostalgia.
A Library blog is also maintained as ― “PGGCG11LIBRARY” where library activities are uploaded and updated regularly. Library blog also provide the access to open resources by providing links. Web-OPAC service was provided to the users 24*7 over the internet through the https://117.239.7.66:8080/jopacv11 by which one can check the availability of the books in the library.
Library Rules
College has well stocked libraries with open shelf system. Latest books, journals, periodicals and newspapers are accessible to the students. Computers with high speed internet/ Wi-Fi/ LAN connectivity have been installed to facilitate the students. Besides, educational material is also available in the form of CDs and Audio Cassettes.
As soon as the student is admitted to the college, she shall be issued an Identity cum Library Card on production of fee receipt. Every student shall keep her Identity Card with her while visiting the library. A student who does not bring her Identity Card/Library card on demand may be refused to enter in the library.
Issue of Books
- Books shall be issued for 14 days.
- Overdue fine @ Re. 1/- per book per day shall be charged.
Library Security
- Refund/ lapse of security of students leaving college: All outgoing students must submit Library Security Refund Form (available in the Office) to the dealing assistant of the office.
- For students leaving college mid-session: Application for refund of security must be made on the prescribed form immediately on leaving the college.
Book Bank
Under the scheme of University Grants Commission for Text Book Library, complete sets of Text Books are issued to the needy students for the entire session

INFLIBNET Centre (Information and Library Network Centre) is an Inter-University Centre of the University Grants Commission under the Ministry of Education. The organisation promotes and facilitates libraries and information resources for higher education. The college has institutional membership of INFLIBNET N-LIST whereby the faculty, students and research scholars can access academic resources available on various platforms. This way the Library of the college has expanded its educational horizons by venturing beyond the printed study and reference material, and made the e-resources accessible. Books, journals, dissertations, and thesis which are available in electronic medium are available for consultation, reference and guidance.
Faculty Members, Research Scholars and PG Students of the college are registered for N-LIST membership. Username and password are issued to them to access resources available on N-LIST.
