PGGCG-11 Celebrates 150 Years of the National Song Vande Mataram

The NSS Units of Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh, in collaboration with the Department of Music, organized a special programme on November 7, 2025, to commemorate 150 years of the National Song Vande Mataram. The event was held with great enthusiasm and patriotic spirit at the College Sports Ground and the Multimedia Room.

The programme began with a collective recitation of Vande Mataram by students and faculty, creating a soulful and inspiring atmosphere filled with national pride, unity, and deep respect for the country’s cultural heritage.

As part of the celebration, NSS volunteers and students viewed the live telecast of the Government of India’s Vande Mataram programme, which featured captivating performances by renowned musicians and classical singers from across the country. The Prime Minister’s address added depth to the occasion, highlighting Vande Mataram as a timeless symbol of India’s unity in diversity and encouraging the youth to actively contribute to the nation’s inclusive growth.

Principal Prof. (Dr.) Rama Arora shared her reflections on the historical significance of Vande Mataram, composed by Shri Bankim Chandra Chatterjee. She emphasized how the song served as a powerful unifying force during India’s freedom struggle, inspiring a spirit of sacrifice and national integration. She also urged students to embrace the values of patriotism, service, and unity embodied in the song.

The programme concluded on a high note, leaving participants with a renewed sense of patriotic fervour and reaffirming Vande Mataram as not just a national song, but a symbol of India’s cultural legacy, collective strength, and enduring commitment to unity and progress.
