The Cultural Society of PGGCG-11, Chandigarh, in collaboration with SPIC MACAY, organized a program for the students of Music Vocal, Instrumental, and Dance Departments on February 20, 2025. The event began with a ceremonial lamp lighting by Principal Prof. Anita Kaushal, Mr. Kanwar Iqbal Singh (Dean), Convenor Dr. Amita Sharma, and other members of the Cultural Society.
Smt. U. Nagamani, a famous mandolin player who has performed worldwide, was joined by her mentor and husband Shri. U.P. Raju for a musical performance.
Smt. Nagamani, accompanied by Sri Madipakkam P. Suresh on the Mridangam, Sri N. Rajaraman on the Ghatam, and Master U. Subramania Raju on the Thalam, started with the raga Saraswati in Rupak Taal, a composition by the great Tyagaraja. She then presented a piece similar to the north Indian raga Durga, also known as Shudh Sawari in South Indian raga, followed by an Alap and Kalpana Swar. She concluded with a beautiful rendition of raga Sindhu Bhairavi and Bharavi, leaving the audience amazed by her talent.
After the performance, students had a chance to ask questions during a Q&A session, where they received detailed answers, deepening their understanding of the performance.
Overall, the program was both informative and inspiring for the students.
