The 67th Annual Convocation of Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh, was organised on 19th March, 2026 with remarkable grandeur and dignity, celebrating the accomplishments of over 1,500 graduating students.
The ceremony was graced by eminent historian and educationist Padma Shri Professor Dr. Raghuvendra Tanwar as the Chief Guest. An internationally acclaimed scholar and one of India’s foremost contemporary historians, Professor Tanwar currently serves as Chairman of the Indian Council of Historical Research. Over the years, he has held several prestigious academic and administrative positions, including Chairman of the Indian Council of Philosophical Research, National Fellow at the University Grants Commission, and President of the Indian History Congress. He is also associated with leading national institutions such as the Anusandhan National Research Foundation, the Indian Institute of Advanced Study, the Prime Ministers’ Museum and Library Society, and the Indian Council of Social Science Research.
In his Convocation Address, Professor Tanwar encouraged the graduating students to pursue knowledge with integrity, uphold national values, and make meaningful contributions to society.
The occasion was further enriched by the presence of distinguished alumna Professor Dr. Reicha Tanwar, a noted academic in Gender Studies and former Director of the Centre for Women’s Studies at Kurukshetra University, who graduated from the college in 1976.
Addressing the gathering, the Principal, Professor Dr. Anita Kaushal, highlighted the institution’s outstanding achievements. Established in 1956 and affiliated with Panjab University, the college continues to be a premier centre of higher education for women.
The academic year marked several notable accomplishments. Diksha Makkar secured All India Rank 1 with a perfect 100 percentile in UGC-NET (Public Administration), while over 19 students qualified UGC-NET across various disciplines. The college also earned multiple gold medals at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, with more than 50 students featuring in the Panjab University merit list.
The NCC cadets brought great pride to the institution, with Cadet Mehak Thakur being adjudged All India Best Cadet at the Republic Day Camp 2026 and honoured by the Prime Minister. In sports, Vinnati clinched a gold medal at the Asian Roller Skating Championship, while several others excelled at national and international levels.
The college maintained its cultural excellence by winning the Overall Trophy at the Panjab University Zonal Youth and Heritage Festival for the eleventh consecutive year. It was also recognised as a ‘Sustainable Campus’ for its commendable environmental initiatives.
The convocation concluded on an inspiring note, reaffirming the institution’s commitment to academic excellence, character development, and nation-building.
