PGGCG-11 organized a One Day National Seminar on the theme “Current Trends in Scientific Research and Knowledge”

JIGYASA, the Science Society of Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector-11 Chandigarh, organized a one-day national seminar on February 11, 2025, under the Aegis of IQAC. The theme of the seminar was “Current Trends in Scientific Research and Knowledge.” The event was sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology and Renewable Energy, Chandigarh Administration.

The Chief Guest at the opening ceremony was Shri T.C. Nautiyal (IFS), Chief Conservator of Forests, UT Chandigarh, and Secretary of Science & Technology and Renewable Energy. He was introduced by the respected Principal, Prof. (Dr.) Anita Kaushal. In his keynote address, Shri T.C. Nautiyal encouraged students to stay curious and develop rational thinking about the sustainability of life, the environment, and energy resources.

The seminar had two technical sessions with lectures by notable speakers. In the first session, Dr. Ravinder Kumar, Assistant Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Zoology at Panjab University, spoke about ‘Animal Cell Culture and its Applications.’ This was followed by Prof. C. Nirmala from the Department of Botany, Panjab University, who gave a talk on ‘Bamboo: An Emerging Bio-resource for Neutraceuticals.’ She also shared ideas on bamboo-based businesses and how it can help in livelihood development.

In the second technical session, Prof. Ranjan Kumar from the Department of Physics at Panjab University gave a talk on “Exploration of Materials for Energy Harvesting,” focusing on thermo-electricity, superconductivity, and solar cells. Dr. Deepak Sharma, Associate Professor in Chemistry at Government PG College (Ambala), then spoke about ‘Recent Advances in Ionic Liquids,’ highlighting how ionic liquids research can address challenges in energy, sustainability, and health.

Over 200 participants attended the seminar, and 145 posters were presented by students and faculty from various colleges in Chandigarh and nearby areas. Prizes were awarded for the best three posters.

At the valedictory session, Principal Prof. (Dr.) Anita Kaushal was the Chief Guest and congratulated the participants and prize winners. She presented the awards to the winners.
