An Orientation Programme for first-year undergraduate students from various disciplines was held at Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh, on July 21, 2025. The programme aimed to familiarize new students with the college’s policies, academic environment, and available facilities.
Prof. (Dr) Rama Arora, Principal of the college, extended a warm welcome to the incoming students and highlighted the institution’s exceptional accomplishments in both academics and extracurricular pursuits. She also provided an overview of the campus facilities and resources designed to support the students’ academic and personal growth.
The students were briefed on the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 by Panjab University, which began in the previous academic session. NEP 2020 seeks to revamp the education system to meet 21st-century demands and establish India as a global knowledge hub. As part of the orientation, students were introduced to the new curriculum structure, including Multidisciplinary Courses (MDCs), Skill Enhancement Courses (SECs), and Value-Added Courses (VACs).
The orientation also covered important student-related matters such as fee concessions, bus pass facilities, library access, scholarship opportunities, NSS and NCC enrolment, subject change guidelines, placement cell functions, and essential dos and don’ts within the college premises. Students were informed about the mandatory 75% attendance requirement in each subject and the significance of the Mid-Semester Examination in their academic journey.
Moreover, students were acquainted with the various active societies in the college that promote civic awareness and social responsibility. These include societies working in areas such as Traffic Awareness and Road Safety, Heritage Preservation, AIDS Awareness, Sanitation and Hygiene, Drug De-addiction, Gender Equity, Environmental Awareness, and Best out of Waste initiatives. These platforms aim to foster holistic development through active student engagement in both campus-based and community-oriented activities.
To conclude, the students were introduced to the in-charges of various college committees and were guided regarding their office locations for future assistance.
