The students of PG Department of Commerce of P.G. Govt. College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh organised “SAYONARA-2K19” a farewell on 22-04-2019 for the outgoing batch of B.Com.-III students. Prof. (Dr.) Anita Kaushal , Principal of the college was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Mr. Kanwar Iqbal,Dean, Dr. Anita Khosla,Vice-Principal and members of faculty of the college also graced the occasion. SAYONARA-2K19 was a colourful event and a feast to the eyes of the audience.Traditional dances like bhangra and classical performances enthralled the gathering. Students showcased their dancing talent on foot-tapping numbers. The students of the outgoing class recalled the memories of their glorious stay in the college and became nostalgic while recollecting the precious moments spent in the campus. They expressed profound gratitude towards their teachers for mentoring them throughout their stay in the college.

TECH-ZEAL 2K19
The Department of Computer Applications of Post Graduate Govt. College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh organized TECH-ZEAL 2K19 a kaleidoscope of Inter-College competitions on 11-04-2019. The Fest was inaugurated by the Chief-guest Prof. Anita Kaushal, Principal, Dean Mr. Kanwar Iqbal Singh and Prof. Pardeep Walia, HOD Computer Applications by lighting of the ceremonial lamp.
The campus of the college was abuzz throughout the day with huge participation of more than 160 students from 13 colleges of the region. “SHOW CASE” was a contest of movie making talent. “DANCE PLUS”- the Dance competition was highly enjoyed by the gathering. Participants danced to the foot-tapping numbers of the latest songs. “TREASURE HUNT” was an exposure to outdoor thrills wherein the presence of mind and physical agility was tested. “MIND EXPLORER- IT QUIZ” tested the programming skills through problem solving, critical analysis and quick thinking. “WEB-CREATEX” contest tested the web designing skills of the students. Many issues were presented in “CURTAIN-RAISER”, the skit Competition. “KOD-HAK”, the debugging competition threw challenges before the participants. “THE MASK-Face Painting” on themes related to Digital India were a treat to watch, and in “BEST OUT’A WASTE” the e-waste material was assembled creatively and innovatively. “TIK-TOK” saw the synchronization skills of the participants on different songs and dialogues
Convocation
62nd Annual Convocation
The 62nd Annual Convocation of Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sec-11, Chandigarh, was held on 08-04-2018. Professor Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh, was the Chief Guest on the occasion. The Convocation was inaugurated by lighting of the Ceremonial Lamp by the Chief Guest and Principal Prof. Anita Kaushal which was followed by rendition of Saraswati Vandana by the students. More than 900 Graduates and Post-Graduates were conferred degrees. 146 Post-Graduate degrees were awarded in Public Administration, Economics, Dance, Music Vocal, Music Instrumental, Sociology, English, Botany, Zoology, Chemistry, and Computer Applications. In the Graduate category, 64 for B.Com. Pass Course; 65 for B.Com. Honours; 182 for B.A. Honours; 212 for B.A. Pass Course; 201 Science graduates in B.Sc. Medical, B.Sc. Non-Medical, B.Sc. Computer Science and BCA; and 40 in B.Sc. Honours were conferred degrees. More than 70 students of the college who secured positions in the Panjab University Examination were felicitated on the occasion. 3 students who stood first in the Panjab University examinations were awarded Medals, and 6 were decorated with Roll of Honour by the Chief Guest for their outstanding academic performance. Neerja Mahra of M.A. Dance; Sarita of M.Sc. Botany; Deepti Chaudhary of M.Sc. Zoology were awarded the Roll of Honour and Medal. Madhu Bala of M.A. Music Instrumental; Navneet Kaur and Kirti of M.Sc. Botany were awarded Roll of Honour. Ms. Madhu Bala was awarded Panna Lal Madan Medal for standing First in M.A. Music Instrumental. Ms. Savita Gill was awarded Panna Lal Madan Medal for standing First in M.A Music Vocal. Ms. Diksha and Ms. Chitra were awarded scholarship instituted by Sunder Lal Ram Parsad Khosla Charitable Trust, for standing First and Second respectively in B.Com.
National Seminar on “Informal Employment in India: Issues and Challenges”
PG Department of Economics of PG Government College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh organised an ICSSR, New Delhi sponsored National Seminar on “Informal Employment in India: Issues and Challenges” on 28-3-2019. Sh. B.L.Sharma, IAS, Secretary Education, Chandigarh Administration was the Chief-guest and Prof. Amitabh Kundu, Distinguished Fellow, Research and Information System for developing Countries, New Delhi was the Keynote speakeron the occasion. Prof. Kundu is also the Chairman, Committee for Swatch Bharat Mission, Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Government of India. More than one hundred delegates from various institutions of the country participated in the Seminar.
‘Fire and Emergency’safety services
Post Graduate Govt. College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh organized a mock drill on ‘Fire and Emergency’safety services in the college premises on 27-03-2019. The students and faculty of the college were reappraised about the operation of fire extinguishers and were also trained about the evacuation plan at time of emergency. The students and faculty were benefitted from the lecture delivered and mock drill by the fire safety team. Principal, Prof. Anita Kaushal, also participated in the training programme for operating fire extinguishers.
Blood Donation Camp
A Blood Donation Camp was organized in P.G. Government College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh by the Blood Donation Society, along with NSS and Alumni Association of the college in collaboration with Department of Transfusion Medicine, PGI, Chandigarh on 27-03-2019. The camp was sponsored by Inner Wheel Club of Chandigarh Mid Town. Prof. Anita Kaushal, Principal of the college inaugurated the Blood Donation Camp and motivated the students to contribute for the noble cause.A total of 110 units of blood were donated. Each donor was accorded with a certificate from PGI, Chandigarh and a gift. Refreshments were provided to the donors. Prof. Nisha Aggarwal, Convenor of Blood Donation Society of the college thanked the donors and the staff of PGI for their support and cooperation. The camp received an overwhelming response from the college, staff, and students,and ended on a successful note.

The PG Department of Sociology of PG Govt. College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh, organised an ICSSR-NW sponsored Seminar on “Social Inclusion and Social Equality through Education” on 26-03-2019. More than one hundred faculty members and research scholars from various institutions of the region participated in the Seminar. Mr. Rubinderjit Brar, Director Higher Education, Chandigarh Administration was the Chief-guest in the Inaugural Session. Prof. S.L.Sharma, a renowned social scientist was the keynote speaker.
Prof. Anita Kaushal, Principal of the college welcomed the guests and observed that the seminar was on a very pertinent topic, and social inclusion and equality was the need of the hour too. In his Inaugural Address, Mr. RubinderjitBrar highlighted the initiatives being taken by the government, and especially by the Chandigarh Administration in the field of education. He stressed that substantial measures are being made available in this direction so that the educational requirements of students of all sections of the society are taken care of.
In his keynote address, Prof. S.L. Sharma discussed about the existing scenario of social exclusion and inequality at the global, national and regional level. Citing examples and data, he explained the causes of the current situation and then dwelled into the measures through which the situation can be improved. Observing that the Indian system of education is informative and not transformative, he motivated the students to strengthen themselves as the state alone cannot do everything.
This was followed by a Panel Discussion in which scholars and academicians deliberated upon the intricacies of education and its role in bringing about social inclusion and establishing social equality. The panelists reflected upon the studies and researches conducted in this field and gave suggestions to bridge the gaps.
In the Technical Session, more than fifty papers were presented on diverse issues. The focus was on themes related to Conceptual and Procedural issues; Marginalised sections of society; Theoretical issues in education as anagent of change; Role of government agencies; Right to Education etc. The presentations were very thought provoking and provided an evaluative analysis of the various dimensions related to the question of inclusion and equality.
Prof. Sanjay Kaushik, Honorary Director, ICSSR and Director College Development Council, PU Chandigarh was the Chief-guest for the Valedictory Session. He congratulated the organisers for organising the Seminar on a relevant theme and felt assured that the faculty and students have benefitted from the interface. Prof. Nandita Singh, Dean International Students, PU Chandigarh was the Guest of Honour and delivered the valedictory address.
One-day Capacity Building Workshop on “Web-based Educational Resources” under the aegis of RUSA
The Library Department of P.G. Govt. College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh organised a One-day Capacity Building Workshop on “Web-based Educational Resources” under the aegis of RUSA on 23-02-2019. More than two hundred students and 85 faculty members registered for the workshop. The faculty members were from various government colleges and government-aided colleges of the city.
The aim of the Workshop was to give a hands-on training to the teachers and students for wise and optimum use of web-based educational resources. The resource-person for the first and second Technical Session was Dr. PreetiSharda, Librarian, Regional Institute of English, Sector-32, Chandigarh. Elaborating on ‘National Digital Library’ in her first presentation, she explained about the salient features of NDLI. She stressed that with a multi-lingual interface, the academic material is available in seventy languages and it is very easy to register as it is free of cost. One can access text, ppts, videos, thesis, books and simulations, and the repository has a collection of more than two crore documents covering all classes and with varying levels of difficulty. An on the spot demonstration of the NDLI app was also carried out to show that the search or browse results are better than google.
In her second presentation ‘Google Classroom’, shehighlighted that it is a free web service developed by google for schools with an aim to simplify creating, distributing and grading assignments in a paperless way. Further, sharing of files between the teachers and studentswill create a more effective academic environment. Both the sessions were highly interactive and the students posed questions before the speaker about the methodology of usage of the app.
In the third Technical Session, Dr. P.V. Rao, Librarian, Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration, Chandigarh enlightened the audience on open access resources and their utilisation. He also discussed ‘Plagiarism’ and various issues related to plagiarism.
The delegates benefitted immensely as the Workshop did not have a theoretical perspective only. They witnessed practical demonstration and carried out the searches on relevant study and reference material themselves as well.

The students and members of faculty of Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh watched the live telecast of ‘Pareeksha pe Charcha 2.0’ on 29-01-2019. The programme was organised in the Talk at or a Indoor Stadium, New Delhi and was an Interactive event, wherein Honourable Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi interacted with students, teachers and parents. He replied to the questions on exam related issues like stress, anxiety, time- management, competition etc.
The college authorities made appropriate arrangements to cater to the students of all streams of all classes. Whereas the majority of students watched the telecast in the auditorium, alternative measures were put in place in the smart classrooms for the students of science, computer applications and commerce streams.
The interaction was watched with keen interest and the students also applauded the witty replies of Honourable Prime Minister in between. It is noteworthy that the students watched this telecast attentively last year also.
