PRAKRITI- The Environment Society of Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector-11,Chandigarh celebrated Akshay Urja Diwas on 24-08-2018. The function was sponsored by Chandigarh Renewable Energy Science and Technology Promotion Society (CREST). Various Inter-college Competitions like Eco-rangoli, Poster Making and Face Painting on the theme “Impact of Akshay Urja in India” were held. About 100 students from 15 colleges of the Tricity registered for the competitions. A lecture cum presentation was given by Dr. Vasundhara Singh, Professor at Punjab Engineering College Chandigarh and also alumnus of the college. She spoke on solar energy as a renewable source for water treatment and solar cells. She also talked on the usage of titanium compounds on improving environmental quality.

Sitar Recital by Padma Shree Ustaad Shahid Parvez
The Cultural Society of Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh in collaboration with SPICMACAY organised a Sitar Recital by Padma Shree Ustaad Shahid Parvez on 06-08-2018. He was accompanied by Shri Hindole Majumdar on Tabla.
He is one of the most brilliant musical gems of the famous Etawah Gharana and belongs to the seventh generation of this musical lineage.Trained by his father and guru, Ustad Aziz Khan, he is devotedly carrying forward the musical tradition of the family committed to the most famous Indian instrument.
He is the recipient of numerous prestigious awards including the coveted ‘Padma Shri’ and ‘Sangeet Natak Academy Award’, Sur Shringaar, Kumar Gandharva Samman and M. L. Koser Award. One of the greatest sitar-players of the world, he has performed in all major musical festivals in India and abroad including the Festival of India held in the US, Europe, USSR, Canada, Middle East, Africa and Australia, enthralling the audience everywhere.
For Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan, the Sitar and Self are identical entities, and music is not just a discipline but life itself – vibrating and pulsating and full of colour. The faculty and students benefitted a lot from the presentation.
