Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector- 11, Chandigarh in collaboration with the department of Physical Education & Sports organized an Interclass Chess Competition as part of the National Sports Day celebrations on August 29, 2024. The competition was held in the Badminton hall and saw enthusiastic participation from students among various classes.
The event began at 10:00 am with an opening speech by our HOD DR Rajesh Kumar who highlighted the importance of mental sports like chess in fostering strategic thinking and patience among students. The competition was divided into different categories to ensure fair play.
Total of 32 participants competed in a knockout format. After several intense rounds, the final match was held between eight girls displayed excellent strategic skills and NUPUR -First ( BA II-13/23),SHREYA-Second (BSc III-11598/22) and JASLEEN-Third (BA III-9/23) emerged as the winners, securing the positions of Chess Champion.
The winners were facilitated by the DR Rajesh Kumar in the closing ceremony, which also included a special mention of all participants for their sportsmanship and dedication. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by the Dr Anu Sharma, who expressed gratitude to the teachers, volunteers, and participants for making the event a grand success.
The Interclass Chess Competition not only celebrated National Sports Day but also highlighted the importance of chess as a sport that sharpens the mind and builds character. It was a day filled with excitement, learning, and a spirit of healthy competition.
