PGGCG-11 Organized WORLD OZONE DAY

PRAKRITI – The Environment Society of Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector -11, organized World Ozone Day today, on the theme “From Science to Global action”on 12.09.2025. The function was sponsored by Department of Environment, Chandigarh Administration. Following activities were organized:

  1. Inter College Slogan Writing Competition
  2. Inter College Declamation Competition
  3. Lecture on Recycled Plastic Products
  4. Pledge to Save Ozone Layer

As part of the celebrations, the college organized a series of inter-college competitions including Inter College Slogan Writing Competition and Inter College Declamation competition. About 56 students from the tricity participated in various Competitions.

A lecture on recycled plastic products was given by Ms. Garima Sharma, CSR, Bisleri. She showcased the products made from waste plastics which were inspiring to audience.

The Chief Guest of the function was Prof. (Dr.) Rama Arora, Principal of the College. She emphasized the importance of minimizing the use of ozone-depleting substances and highlighted the urgent need for sustainable development. She urged both students and faculty to take active roles in promoting environmentally responsible practices.

Prof. Rama Arora noted that the ongoing healing of the ozone layer serves as a powerful example of how global cooperation can effectively address critical environmental challenges. Referring to the Montreal Protocol, she explained how it united countries worldwide to phase out harmful substances such as aerosols, chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), and halons—commonly used in cooling and refrigeration systems. She also stressed that sustainable development is the need of the hour and students have a significant role in this direction. She also stated that the ongoing healing of Ozone layer is an inspirational example of how the world can come together to address global challenges. The students and faculty members took a pledge to conserve energy. The faculty members and students took a pledge to conserve energy and commit to sustainable practices for a healthier and more sustainable planet.

Principal, Prof. Rama Arora, congratulated the participants and highlighted the need to shift towards renewable energy sources for a sustainable future. She also encouraged the youth to be active ambassadors of green energy and to adopt eco-friendly practices in their daily lives.

The event concluded with the distribution of prizes to the winners, followed by a vote of thanks to all participants, faculty members, and organizers who made the celebration a grand success.
