Blood Donation Camp

A Blood Donation Camp was organized by the Blood Donation Society along with NSS and the Alumni Association of Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh on 12-9-2019. The camp was organized in collaboration with the Department of Transfusion Medicine, PGI, Chandigarh and was jointly sponsored by Inner Wheel Club Chandigarh and ‘Nescafe’.

The camp received an overwhelming response from the students, teaching staff and non-teaching staff. A total of 78 units were collected and donated during the camp. Arrangements were made for refreshments, and each donor was accorded with a Thank you Badge and a certificate from PGI. Mrs. Meenu Verma, Associate Professor in Commerce and Convener of Blood Donation Society of the college thanked the donors, the staff of PGI and the sponsors for their support and cooperation.

Prof. Anita Kaushal, Principal of the college who was the Chief-guest on the occasion appreciated the efforts of the organizers. She praised the donors for their humane concern and the invaluable and life-saving contribution towards the noble cause.

Fit India Movement

The faculty and students of Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh watched the Live Telecast of the launch of “Fit India Movement” by Honourable Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi from Indira Gandhi Stadium Complex in New Delhi on 29-8-2019. The launch of the programme was in celebration of National Sports Day marking the birthday of Hockey Wizard Dhyan Chand.

In addition to the live telecast in the college auditorium, appropriate arrangements were made by the college authorities in many smart classrooms so that all the students and faculty members could watch the launch of the movement. The telecast received huge rounds of applause. The students were seen to be too engrossed in the performances of folk dances and malkhambh. The views of the common citizens and athletes about their involvement in various fitness ventures encouraged the students. Address by Honourable Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi was keenly watched by the audience and the students felt motivated.

Akshay Urja Diwas

PRAKRITI- The Environment Society of Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh celebrated Akshay Urja Diwas on 24-08-2019. The function was sponsored by Chandigarh Renewable Energy Science and Technology Promotion Society (CREST). Various Inter-college Competitions like Eco-rangoli, Poster Making and Slogan Writing on the theme “Impact of Akshay Urja in India” were organised. About 100 students from 15 colleges of the Tricity registered for the competitions.

A lecture cum presentation was given by Dr. Arun Singh, Assistant Professor at Punjab Engineering College Chandigarh. He talked about various techniques of Renewable Energy Sources. He laid emphasis on cutting down the use of non-renewable energy sources for sustainable development.

Sh. Debendra Dalai, IFS, Chief Executive Officer, CREST was the Chief-guest for the day and Dr. Abdul Qayam, IFS, Additional CEO, CREST was the Guest of Honour. Sh. Debendra Dalai encouraged the students and faculty members to save energy and make use of Solar Energy as much as possible.He gave away prizes to the winners and congratulated the students and the prize winners for enthusiastically participating in various competitions and being a part of the valuable campaign. Prof. (Dr.) Anita Kaushal stressed that Sustainable Development is the need of the hour and students have a significant role to play in this direction. They can be agents of social change and guide the society to prevent wastage of energy and also motivate them to adopt renewable sources of energy in the larger interest of the future generations. All the students, faculty members and guests took pledge to conserve Energy.

Laptops distributed to students in PGGCG-11

Prof. Anita Kaushal, Principal, Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh distributed laptops to eleven students of the college in 16-8-2019. The students belong to ‘Priority Household’ category, and the distribution is a component of the enterprise for promotion of education under e-Snatak scheme of Chandigarh Administration.

The e-snatak scheme is an initiative of Chandigarh Administration to promote the adoption of Information Technology in Chandigarh, in accordance with the objectives of IT and Electronics policy of Administration. Under this scheme laptops are provided to such girl students who belong to priority households and are pursuing graduation.

Principal Dr. Kaushal encouraged the students to make optimum use of information technology, and use e-resources for supplementing their academics. She felt confident that this initiative will assist the students in upgrading their skills and open avenues for job opportunities in today’s competitive world.

Students ranging from various streams expressed their happiness by thanking the college authorities and Chandigarh Administration and assured that they will make a rational use of technology and make all efforts to justify the venture.

Independence Day

Staff and students of Post-Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh, celebrated Independence Day with exuberance and patriotic fervour on 15.8.2019.  Prof. Anita Kaushal, Principal of the college hoisted the National Flag.

Address the students on this occasion, Prof. Anita Kaushal, saluted the freedom fighters and paid tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of the country. She emphasised that India has become a force to be reckoned with in the global arena in all the spheres, especially in economy, defence, space and Information Technology. Progress is not the government’s responsibility alone rather the people’s cooperation, participation and contribution has an equal strength and weightage. Advising the students to stay away from the menace of drugs and other vices, she urged them to channelize their energy towards nation-building.

She highlighted the initiatives of the college to empower the girls and shape them as agents of constructive change. Prof. Kaushal congratulated the students for their excellent performance in academics and motivated them to show their enterprise and assertiveness to carve a niche for themselves at the national and international level.

Talent Hunt Competition

The Cultural Society of Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh organised a Talent Hunt Competition for the freshers of under-graduate and post-graduate classes on 09-08-2019. Prof. Anita Kaushal, Principal of the college was the Chief-guest on the occasion. Mr. Kanwar Iqbal Singh, Dean and Dr. Anita Khosla, Vice-Principal of the college also graced the occasion. The contest witnessed a huge response. More than 200 students appeared for the auditions and sixty students were shortlisted.

The events were organised in Music Vocal, Music Instrumental and Dance categories. The sub-categories of Music Vocal were Geet/Gazal, Light Music and Folk Song; and Percussion and Non-percussion were performed in Music Instrumental. The students showcased their talent under Classical/Semi-classical, Free-style and Folk dance genres in Dance. The presentations were a kaleidoscope of Indian culture and tradition as art and music of various states was reflected in various formats. Performances were mesmerizing and were appreciated by one and all. The dances on popular and foot-tapping numbers left the audience swerving on their feet.

VANMAHOTSAV DAY

PRAKRITI, The Environment Society of Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector 11, Chandigarh celebrated Vanmahotsav by organizing a Tree Plantation Drive on 31.07.19.  The Drive was organized in collaboration with NSS, NOSTALGIA-the Alumni Association of the College and Dainik Jagran Group of Newspapers.

Chief Engineer Mr. Mukesh Anand was the Chief-guest on the occasion. He planted a sapling of Chandni; and Prof. Anita Kaushal, Principal of the college planted a sapling of Hibiscus. Senior faculty members Mr. Jasbir Singh, Head, Department of Punjabi and Mrs. Harjeet Kaur, Head, Department of Mathematics who shall be superannuating on 31st August 2019 also planted tree saplings. Faculty members, alumni, distinguished guests, media persons and volunteers of Prakriti and NSS also planted tree saplings of Neem, Guava, Kadamb etc. The objective of the plantation drive was to promote environment conservation, beautification of the campus and landscaping. It is noteworthy that the college is already running an add-on course in Floriculture and Landscaping.

Orientation Programme

An Orientation Programme for the freshers was organized in Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh on 26-7-2019. The aim of this programme was to familiarize the students with the college environment. Welcoming the students Prof. Anita Kaushal, Principal of the college highlighted the glorious achievements of the college in the academic as well as extra-curricular fields. The college has been accredited ‘A’ with 3.52 CGPA by NAAC, the college ranked 6th in Swachhta Ranking of Government of India among government institutions, and won the First Prize as the Best Maintained Campus in the Rose Festival. Dr. Kaushal motivated the students to give their best and bring laurels to the institution. Mr. Kanwar Iqbal, Dean, and Dr. Anita Khosla, Vice-Principal of the college, were also present on the occasion.

The students were guided about the various provisions and rules for subject change, fee concession, bus-pass, library facilities, NSS, NCC, scholarships, and various Do’s and Don’ts to be observed in the college. They were also informed about the lecture requirement of 75% in all the subjects, and the significance of Mid-semester Examination. The students were also briefed about various societies of the college which organize community-centric and sensitization activities. These societies have been constituted in diverse areas like Traffic Awareness and Road Safety, Preservation and Protection of Heritage, AIDS Awareness, Community Hygiene and Sanitation, Drug De-addiction, Gender Equity, Best from Waste and Environment Awareness Society. The objective is to facilitate the all-round development of the students by involving them in on-campus and off-campus activities. Students were also introduced with the incharges of college-committees and apprised of the room numbers where they will be available.

World Environment Day

Prakriti – The Environment Society of PGGCG-11, celebrated World Environment Day in a very special way. The Society organised the following events for the children of teaching and non-teaching employees of the college.

  1. Painting and decorating the pot.
  2. How to plant a sapling in a pot and post plantation care of the same.
  3. Poetry recitation regarding cleanliness, environment protection, health and hygiene.

Farewell

The students of post-graduate departments of P.G. Govt. College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh bade a colourful and emotional farewell to the outgoing PG students on 25-4-2019. The college has post-graduation in English, Economics, Dance, Music Vocal, Music Instrumental, Sociology, Public Administration, Psychology, Fine Arts, Commerce, Information Technology, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology. Principal, Prof. Anita Kaushal was the chief guest. Dean Mr.Kanwar Iqbal and Vice-Principal Dr. Anita Khosla also graced the occasion.

Students from science, commerce and humanities streams participated with great zeal and enthusiasm. First year PG students presented an enthralling medley of song and dance performances which were enjoyed by one and all. The music and dance performances ranged from Punjabi to folk, and Bollywood to western style. The students of the outgoing PG classes shared their sweet memories and narrated their experiences with a nostalgic and poetic touch. The graceful ramp walk in elegant attires was a treat to the eyes of audience.
