PGGCG-11 ORGANIZED AN INTER COLLEGE COMPETITION-TECH-ZEAL 2K24

The P G Department of Computer Applications of Post Graduate Govt. College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh organized TECH-ZEAL 2K24 a kaleidoscope of Inter-College competition on 01-03-2024. The Fest was inaugurated by the Chief-guest Prof. Anita Kaushal, Principal, by lighting of the ceremonial lamp.

The campus of the college was abuzz throughout the day with participation of more than 190 students from 12 colleges of the region. A host of competitions were organised, “SHOW CASE” was a contest of movie making talent. “DANCE PLUS”- the Dance competition was highly enjoyed by the gathering. Participants danced to the foot-tapping numbers of the latest songs. “TREASURE HUNT” was an exposure to outdoor thrills wherein the presence of mind and physical agility was tested. “MIND EXPLORER- IT QUIZ” tested the programming skills through problem solving, critical analysis and quick thinking.  “WEB-CREATEX” contest tested the web designing skills of the students.. “KOD-HAK”, the debugging competition threw challenges before the participants.“THE MASK-Face Painting”on themes related to Digital India were a treat to watch, and in “BEST OUT OF WASTE” the e-waste material was assembled creatively and innovatively. “

Prof. (Dr.) Anita Kaushal, Principal of the college, commended the efforts of the Department of Computer Applications for orchestrating a successful event and presented awards to the deserving winners. She emphasized the indispensable role of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) across various sectors in today’s world. Encouraging the students to strive for excellence in computer applications, she highlighted the significance of cultivating technical proficiency in navigating the contemporary competitive landscape. Additionally, she acknowledged the importance of events like Tech Zeal in providing students with a platform for relaxation amidst their rigorous academic commitments. She expressed confidence in the students’ technical prowess and its potential to lead them towards fulfilling career paths of their choice.

PGGCG-11 organizes Lecture on Issues in Qualitative Research Methodology

The Post Graduate Department of Sociology organised an extension lecture on ‘Issues in Qualitative Research Methodology’ on 29th February, 2024. Prof. Kulwinder Kaur from Jamia, Millia, Islamia University, New Delhi was the guest speaker, professor in the Department of Sociology and Honorary Director, Centre for Comparative Religions and Civilisations at Jamia, Millia, Islamia University.  Prof. Kulwinder is an eminent sociologist with a multi-disciplinary and trans-disciplinary orientation. Her expertise is urban sociology, media studies, gender and religion. She has an illustrious academic career with decades of working experience at prestigious universities in India and abroad. She was a visiting fellow at Harvard University and the SOAS University of London.

Dr. Manoj Kumar formally introduced Prof. Kulwinder Kaur and Prof. Renu Trikha, Head of the Department of Sociology welcomed her.

In her lecture, Prof. Kulwinder deliberated on the foundations of qualitative research methodology. She discussed the epistemological and ontological stance of sociology, the relationship between method and theory, and several theoretical perspectives that are relevant to the qualitative research methodology. She provided examples from her own research projects to simplify complex concepts. She also discussed how commonsense knowledge sometimes overlaps the sociological research and how can a researcher deal with it. She inspired the students to choose the research topics, they are passionate about, learn all the research techniques, and use the research methods that best address their research questions.

This was an interdisciplinary event, comprising students and faculty members from different departments of the college. A total of 136 undergraduate, postgraduate students and research scholars from the disciplines of Sociology, English, Economics and Public Administration participated in the event. They all eagerly participated and engaged in the discourse with Prof. Kulwinder.

VIRASAT- Department of History organizes Guest Lecture “ THE SIKH INSTITUTION : ESTABLISHMENT AND DEVELOPMENT ( MID 15TH CENTURY TO 18TH CENTURY ) “

The Department of History organised the Guest lecture by Prof. Veena Sachdeve ( Retd. ) from History Department , Panjab University , Chandigarh on 28th February 2024 in Room No. 34 12 :00 pm to 01:00 pm on the topic “ THE SIKH INSTITUTION : ESTABLISHMENT AND DEVELOPMENT ( MID 15TH CENTURY TO 18TH CENTURY ) .

Prof. Veena Sachdeva a prominent Historian with rich teaching experience started the lecture with the Contemporary references from Gurubaani and othe records that How the Social & Religious evils  revolutionised the Social outlook of Guru Nanak Dev Ji in the form of Sangat , Pangat, Langar, Gurudwara and Guru Gaddi to eradicate the preaing evils.

The Lecture highligted the transformation of Sikhism with the construction of Harimandir Sahib , Akal Takht and compilation of  Adi Guru Granth Sahib ji , the  Horse trade and keeping of Arms by the Guru,  founadation of the new cities like Kartarpur, Sultanpur Lodhi, Amritsar, Goindwal, Hargobindpur, Kiratpur was a mile stone in the Sikh History. Which changed the whole senario  of the Mughal Authority. After the Martyardom of Guru Arjun Dev ji the origin of Miri and Piri and birth of new Sects  lead the path for the cretaion of Khalsa in 1699 A.D. by Guru Gobind Singh Ji and finally he established Guru Granth Sahib ji as the Alive Guru of the Sikhs .

In addition to this Prof. veena Sachdeva focussed on the origin of Guru Matta, Rakhi, Dal Khalsa and the Misaldari system which protected the Sikhs in the Dark period of 18th Century.

Principal Prof. ( Dr. ) Anita Kaushal appriciate this initiative taken by the VIRASAT Society of History Department . Dr. Asha Kiran , Head of the Department Welcomed and introduced the speaker.  The lecture was concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Pallavi Mishra. The students found the lecture very intersting and informative. One hundered and fourty Three students attended this lecture.

PGGCG-11 organizes one day National Seminar on the theme “Indigenous Technologies for Viksit Bharat: Making India Atmanirbhar through Science”

JIGYASA-The Science Society of Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector -11, Chandigarh organized one day National Seminar on the theme “Indigenous Technologies for Viksit Bharat: Making India Atmanirbhar through Science under the aegis of IQAC on 27.02.2024.The Event was sponsored by Department of Science and Technology and Renewable Energy, Chandigarh Administration. Sub-themes of the event were Science for Sustainable Development, Environment Friendly Industrial Technologies, Latest Scientific Innovations for Atmanirbhar Bharat. More than 200 students from different colleges participated in the event. Various Inter-College competitions like Power Point Presentation, Cartoon Making, Just a Minute, Rangoli Making and Quiz were organized. The results are as follows:-

Principal Prof. Anita Kaushal was the Chief Guest for the valedictory function. She gave away the prizes to the winners of various events and encouraged them to carve a niche for themselves in the contemporary competitive world. She also congratulated the organizers for their efforts towards holistic development of students. Dr. Sadhana Verma, Convener, JIGYASA-The Science Society of the College proposed a vote of thanks.

PGGCG-11 organized Annual Inter College Psychology Fest, ZEITGEIST 2024

The MANORANG Society of the Psychology Department of PGGCG 11, organized its annual Inter College Psychology Fest on 27th February, 2024.  The function was inaugurated by the worthy principal of the college Prof.(Dr.) Anita Kaushal by lighting the lamp. Students of the Psychology Department presented Ganesha Vandana and a presentation showcasing all the activities organized by the department. Total 9 teams from Chandigarh colleges and Panjab University Psychology Department participated in total 10 events spread out through the day. 200 students accompanied by their respective faculty from these colleges competed for Debate, Quiz, Poster Making, Face Painting, Snapshot, Folk Dance, Poetry, Charismatic Personality, Psychology Meme and Psychodrama events. Nearly 400 students attended the fest. The prize winners were given trophies at the end of the event. This year DAV College Sector-10 won the overall champions trophy of the Zeitgeist. Principal madam applauded the zeal and efforts of the students and congratulated the organizing team for the successful completion of the function.

PGGCG-11 organized the Fifth Juvenescere: Annual Philosophy Fest 2024

The Department of Philosophy of Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh, organized Juvenescere: Annual Philosophy Fest 2024 (Inter-College) on the theme- “Philosophical Reflection in a Multicultural World” on 22-02-2024.

The objective of the fest was to represent and celebrate different cultures of the world and their values. Eleven colleges of Chandigarh participated in nine competitions. (Debate, Poetry Writing, Poetry Recitation, Photography, Poster Making, Group Song, Solo Song, Group Dance and Solo Dance) Sixty-two winners were awarded with trophies and certificates. Total of 110 students participated with unmatched enthusiasm and eagerness. More than two hundred students attended the event.

Several guest performances like Manipuri dance, bolly-wood mania, and Manipuri song sung by North-Indian students, enthralled the audience with joy.

The Chief Guest of the function Principal, Prof. (Dr.) Anita Kaushal, felicitated the winners and also addressed the students by appreciating their zeal. She applauded the students for choosing a unique topic with a philosophical approach. She also appreciated the Head of the Philosophy Department, Dr.Ambuj Sharma for his endless efforts and the initiative to celebrate the spirit of youth every year with great passion and joy.

The 5thJuvenescere:Annual Philosophy Fest was concluded with pride in the hearts of the organisers, with bright smiles on the faces of the winners, and with a hope in the hearts of all- for a better tomorrow.

PGGCG-11 organised a lecture on Sexual Harassment of women at workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act 2013

The Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) collaboration with the department of Political Science organised a lecture on Sexual Harassment of women at workplace    (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act 2013 on 21stFebruary, 2024. Mr. Surinder Kumar, Member Secretary, State legal services authority was the guest speaker at the event. The lecture saw an active participation by the students with  nearly  100 students  attending  and showing a keen interest by asking questions  on different  aspects  of the act  as well as about  the problems being  faced by  them .

PGGCG-11 celebrates “International Mother Language Day “

ਪੋਸਟ ਗ੍ਰੈਜੂਏਟ ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਕਾਲਜ ਲੜਕੀਆਂ, ਸੈਕਟਰ-11,ਚੰਡੀਗੜ੍ਹ  ਵਿੱਚ ਅੰਤਰ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਮਾਤ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਦਿਵਸ ਮਨਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ। ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੇ ਮੁਖੀ ਡਾ. ਜਸਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਆਏ ਮਹਿਮਾਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਗਤ ਕੀਤਾ । ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਪ੍ਰਮੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਵਕਤਾ ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਸਰਬਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ, ਪੰਜਾਬ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਚੰਡੀਗੜ੍ਹ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਮਾਤ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਦੀ ਮਹੱਤਤਾ  ਬਾਰੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਨਵੀਂ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਨੀਤੀ 2020  ਦੇ ਸੰਦਰਭ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਦੀ ਵਰਤਮਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਭਵਿੱਖ-ਮੁਖੀ ਸਥਿਤੀ ਬਾਰੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਾ ਸਿਰਫ ਜਾਣੂ ਕਰਵਾਇਆ ਬਲਕਿ ਸਾਹਿਤਕ ਅਤੇ ਰਾਜਨੀਤਕ ਪੱਧਰ ਤੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਦੀ ਸਥਿਤੀ ਬਾਰੇ ਸੁਚੇਤ ਵੀ ਕੀਤਾ। ਇਸ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਵਿੱਚ 150 ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਅਤੇ ਵੱਖ- ਵੱਖ ਵਿਭਾਗਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਧਿਆਪਕ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੋਏ। ਡਾ. ਗੁਰਦੀਪ ਕੌਰ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਧੰਨਵਾਦੀ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਕਹੇ ਗਏ।

PGGCG-11 Organizes 67th Annual Athletic Meet

The 67th Annual Athletic Meet of Post-Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh was held on 20-02-2024. The Meet took off with a vibrant start with the inauguration by Principal Prof. Anita Kaushal. She hoisted the college flag and took salute from the colourfully dressed marching contingents of students of different streams. Students of the college, who excelled in various national, state and inter-university championships in various sports events during this academic session, lit the torch. The athletes took oath to compete with a sense of sportsmanship.

Ms Kanwardeep Kaur, IPS, Senior Superintendent of Police, Chandigarh was the Chief-guest for the Closing Ceremony. The Principal presented the College Sports Report and highlighted the glorious achievements of the students of the college at national and international level. The students of Dance Department presented dance Luddi, which has been winner of PU Zonal Youth Festival, Inter-zonal Festival and participated in the 27th National Youth Festival held at Nashik. Yoga skills were also demonstrated by the students to generate awareness about physical fitness.

Congratulating the winners Ms Kanwardeep Kaur, IPS, appreciated the students and faculty members whose persistent and untiring efforts made the glorious achievements in sports possible at various levels. She praised the marching contingents for their impeccable synchronization. She stressed that one’s endeavors should never stop come what may be, as later this spirit becomes building blocks of success in life. She motivated the students to excel in their field of choice and bring laurels to the institution and country.

PGGCG-11 organized Lecture on Career in the Civil Services

The Post Graduate Department of Sociology organised a lecture on ‘Career in the Civil Services’ on 19th February, 2024.The event commenced by welcoming the guest speaker, Sh. Abhishek Vashishtha, an IPS officer(Punjab cadre), by Prof. (Dr.) Renu Trikha, Head of the Department of Sociology.

Sh. Abhishek Vashishtha is an esteemed officer. He successfully cleared the UPSC civil services examination in the year 2020 and was allocated the Indian Revenue Service, and in the year 2022, he once again emerged triumphant in the UPSC civil services examination and got Indian Police Service (IPS). He shared his experience of clearing the UPSC exam twice, the challenges he faced and most importantly the motivation that led him towards his goal.

He explained the details of the exam and the nuances of all the stages, preliminary, mains, and interview. He encouraged the students to stay focused on their goals and how they could pursue their studies without stress. A total of 127 students from B.A. and M.A. classes and the faculty members of the department of sociology attended the event. His talk was engaging and interactive; students enthusiastically asked questions, to which he meticulously replied.
