PGGCG-11 Organises an One Day National Seminar on the theme “Emerging and Innovative Technologies: Bridging Gap between Science & Society”

JIGYASA-The Science Society of Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector – 11 Chandigarh under the aegis of IQAC organized a One Day National Seminar on the theme “Emerging and Innovative Technologies: Bridging Gap between Science & Society” on 04-02-2026. The event was sponsored by Department of Science and Technology and Renewable Energy, Chandigarh Administration. The Chief Guest of the Inaugural function Sh. Navneet Kumar Srivastava, IFS, Director, Department of Science and Technology and Renewable Energy, Chandigarh Administration, was formally introduced by respected Principal Prof. (Dr) Anita Kaushal. She emphasised that this National Seminar will undoubtedly offer an excellent forum for academicians, researchers and students from diverse disciplines to come together and exchange ideas toward bridging the gap between science and society.

There were two parallel technical sessions during which series of lectures were delivered by eminent speakers. In the first technical session, Dr. Manpreet Singh Pandher, Scientist-D, ZSI, Solan, Himachal Pradesh was the resource person. He spoke about “Importance of Insects in Environment Conservation”. He discussed the role of insects in providing valuable information about the state of ecosystems and the impacts of environmental stressors, such as pollution, habitat destruction, and climate change. Monitoring insect populations can help scientists detect early signs of environmental degradation, allowing for timely interventions to protect ecosystems and biodiversity. The second lecture was delivered by Dr. Vipin Bhatnagar, Department of Physics, Panjab University, Chandigarh on the topic “Innovation: Science to Society”. He talked about STEM: Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics and elaborated the role of physics in development of society. The lecture was followed by an interactive session with the students.

In the Technical Session II,  Department of Botany organized a talk on “Green Innovations and Sustainable Development” by Dr. Daizy Rani Batish, Department of Botany, Panjab University, Chandigarh. The speaker talked about the human activities that have accelerated global warming resulting in climate change due to overreliance on fossil fuels. Green innovations play an important role in reducing utilization of fossil fuels and reducing carbon emissions. The seminar witnessed more than 180 participants and as many as 85 posters were presented by the students and the faculty members of various colleges of Chandigarh and its vicinity. The best posters presented by the under graduate and post graduate students were given the prizes.

During the valedictory session, Principal Prof. (Dr) Anita Kaushal was the Chief Guest. She observed that the students are the future torchbearers of science and technology and should use this opportunity to broaden their perspectives and recognize the social responsibility with scientific excellence.

She congratulated the participants and gave away the prizes to the winners.
