The Orientation Day for the National Service Scheme (NSS) was held at Post Graduate Government College for Girls Sector 11 Chandigarh on 13-08-2024. The event aimed to introduce new volunteers to the objectives, activities, and responsibilities associated with the NSS.
The program commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Salil Sharma, the NSS Convenor, who highlighted the importance of community service and the role of NSS in fostering social responsibility among students. Program officers Dr. Pallavi, Dr. Vijay ,Ms. Harpreet Kaur and Dr. Ritu also encouraged the volunteers to work for the betterment of the society. This was followed by a brief history and overview of the NSS, emphasizing its motto “ Not Me, But You, ” which reflects the spirit of selfless service.
Senior NSS volunteers then shared their experiences, offering insights into the various activities conducted by the NSS, including community service projects, awareness campaigns, and special camps. Their stories inspired the new recruits and provided them with a clearer understanding of the impact they could make.
A short film showcasing past NSS activities was screened, which further motivated the new volunteers. The session also included an interactive Q&A segment, where the attendees could clarify their doubts and learn more about their roles in the organization.
The Orientation Day concluded with the oath-taking ceremony, where new volunteers pledged to uphold the values of the NSS and dedicate themselves to serving the community. The event successfully laid a strong foundation for the upcoming year, leaving the new recruits excited and ready to contribute to the various initiatives planned by the NSS.
Principal and Coordinator NSS Prof Dr. Anita Kaushal motivated the volunteers to participate in community service and other social activities in order to build up a strong nation.
