The ‘Punjabi Sahit Sabha’, society of Department of Punjabi of Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh commemorated the 550th Birth Anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji by organising a series of events on 06-11-2019. As a part of the celebration, an Inter-college Poetry Recitation Competition was held today. More than twenty students from eight colleges of the city participated in the competition. Prof. Anita Kaushal, Principal of the college and Chief-guest of the event welcomed the guests, participants and faculty members from other institutions.
Shri Ram Arsh, Sh. Manmohan Singh Daun and Smt. Daljit Kaur Daun, all eminent poets were the judges on the occasion. The contestants recited the poems on the theme of the teachings, values and philosophy of Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji. The creative potential and the grasp of the students on the life and teachings of Sri Guru Nanak was greatly appreciated by the audience.
Earlier during the week quiz, poetry, story, slogan and essay-writing Intra-college competitions were organised by the Punjabi Department. Students from under-graduate and post-graduate classes of all the streams showcased their imaginative potential and artistic skills portraying the life, teachings and philosophy of Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji.
Highlighting the contribution of Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji, Prof. Anita Kaushal emphasised that the preachings of the Guru are relevant in the contemporary context as they facilitate spiritual upliftment; enhance social harmony and brotherhood and are the key to social equality.
