PGGCG-11 in collaboration with NSS and NCC students celebrated the “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign

The “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign is a nationwide initiative that encourages every citizen to proudly display the Indian national flag, the Tiranga, at their homes. This movement aims to instill a deep sense of patriotism and unity among the people of India, reminding us of the sacrifices and struggles of our freedom fighters and the values enshrined in our Constitution.
Post Graduate Government College for Girls Sector-11 Chandigarh in collaboration with NSS and NCC students celebrated the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervor on 06-08-2024. This initiative aimed to instill a deep sense of national pride and unity among the students and the community.
The celebration featured a variety of engaging events, including slogan writing, poetry recitation, singing, declamation, poster making and Flag March. These activities provided a platform for students to express their creativity and patriotism, showcasing their love for the nation and the values represented by the Indian tricolor .
This celebration was a testament to the collective efforts of the college, NSS, and NCC students in promoting national pride and unity. Principal of the college Prof (Dr) Anita Kaushal emphasized that such campaigns are a reminder of the importance of the Tiranga in our lives and the values it represents.

PGGCG-11 NCC Army Wing celebrated 25th Kargil Vijay Diwas

At Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector 11, Chandigarh, the NCC Army Wing cadets under the leadership of Madam Principal Prof (Dr) Anita Kaushal commemorated Kargil Diwas with a series of moving and energetic performances on 26-07-2024. The event began with a compelling skit that vividly portrayed the heroism and sacrifices of the soldiers during the Kargil War. This was followed by emotive poem recitations that reflected the deep respect and gratitude for the nation’s defenders. Cadets also delivered impactful speeches that underscored the significance of Kargil Diwas and celebrated the valor of the armed forces. The celebration concluded with a spirited patriotic dance, which captivated the audience and evoked a strong sense of national pride. Through these performances, the cadets paid a heartfelt tribute to the bravery of India’s soldiers and reinforced the spirit of patriotism.

PGGCG-11 Organizes Orientation Program (2024-25) for New Students

An Orientation Programme for first-year undergraduate students across various disciplines was organised in the Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh, on 24-07-2024. The primary goal of this orientation was to acquaint the students with the institution’s existing practices and regulations. Prof. (Dr) Anita Kaushal, Principal of the college, warmly welcomed the students and showcased the college’s remarkable achievements in academics and extracurricular activities. She apprised the students regarding various facilities and resources available to them on campus.

Panjab University has implemented The National Education Policy (NEP-2020) from the current session. The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 aims to transform the educational landscape of the country. It is designed to address the changing needs of the 21st century and make India a global knowledge superpower. During the orientation program the students were apprised about the subject combinations and the newly introduced courses viz., Multi Disciplinary Courses (MDC), Skill Enhancement Courses (SEC), Value Added Courses (VAC).

The students received comprehensive guidance on several crucial aspects, including fee concession, bus-pass facilities, library resources, opportunities in NSS and NCC, available scholarships, subject change policies, the role of the placement cell, and the essential Do’s and Don’ts to be observed within the college premises. Additionally, they were informed about the mandatory lecture attendance requirement of 75% in all subjects and the significance of the Mid-semester Examination.

The students were introduced to the various societies operating within the college, each dedicated to organizing community-centric and sensitization activities. These societies focus on diverse areas such as Traffic Awareness and Road Safety, Preservation and Protection of Heritage, AIDS Awareness, Community Hygiene and Sanitation, Drug De-addiction, Gender Equity, Best from Waste, and Environment Awareness.

The ultimate aim of these societies is to foster the holistic development of students by actively involving them in both on-campus and off-campus initiatives. Students were also introduced with the in-charges of college-committees and apprised of the room numbers where they will be available.

PGGCG-11 celebrated 10th International Yoga Day 2024

The NSS and NCC units of Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector 11, Chandigarh, celebrated 10th International YogaDay by organising a vibrant and enlightening event under the guidance of Principal Prof (Dr) Anita Kaushal. The celebration aimed to promote the importance of yoga in maintaining physical, mental, and spiritual well-being among students and faculty.
The event commenced with a series of yoga sessions focusing on various asanas, pranayama techniques, and meditation practices. These sessions aimed to educate students about the profound benefits of yoga in managing stress, improving flexibility, and enhancing overall health.
Students and faculty enthusiastically participated in the yoga sessions, demonstrating their commitment to adopting yoga as an integral part of their daily routine.
NSS Program Officer, Dr. Ritu Sekhri and NCC Caretaker Ms Harpreet Kaur emphasized the importance of yoga for women, particularly in building their psychological and emotional strength.
Principal Prof (Dr) Anita Kaushal appreciated the college’s dedication to promoting holistic education and wellness through initiatives like yoga. She highlighted the role of yoga in fostering a harmonious balance between academic excellence and personal well-being.
The event concluded with a pledge to incorporate yoga into daily life, ensuring a continued commitment to health and wellness.

PGGCG-11 organised Annual Art Exhibition

Kala-Srijan’, the Creative Hand Society of the P.G Department of Fine Arts of PG Government College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh, hosted its Annual Art Exhibition 18.4.2024. The exhibition was inaugurated by Prof. Tirthankar Bhattacharya, Chairperson, Department of Art History and Visual Arts, Panjab University. The exhibition showcased over 200 artworks of novel and exquisite pieces across various genres such as Creative Composition, Life Study, Installation, Clay Modelling, Lippan Art etc.

The creative prowess of BA-III, MA-I and MA-II Fine Arts students was evident through their excellent creations and imaginative potential as each exhibit was a visual delight. Prof. Tirthankar Bhattacharya lauded the students’ aesthetic expressions and encouraged them to harness their skills for holistic development. He appreciated the efforts of the faculty members Prof. Guneeta Chadha, Dr. Simmi Arora and Dr. O.P. Parmeshwaran and students in organizing such a captivating art exhibition.

Earlier Prof. Guneeta Chadha, Vice Principal and Head of the Department of Fine Arts, introduced the theme of the exhibition and elaborated on its significance in the academic journey of Art students. She expressed her sincere gratitude to the Principal & Chief Patron of society Prof. Anita Kaushal for her constant guidance, support and encouragement.

Dr. Simmi Arora, Associate Professor, proposed a vote of thanks on behalf of the institution.

PGGCG-11 organized 66th Annual Prize Distribution Function

The 66thAnnual Prize Distribution Function of Post-Graduate Govt. College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh was held on 09-04-2024. Ms. Monica Bhatia, IRS, Director General of Income Tax, NWR, Chandigarh was the Chief Guest on the occasion. The Chief-guest, Principal, Dean and Vice-Principal of the college lighted the ceremonial lamp which was followed by invocation of Goddess Saraswati by the students. Amidst applause by the audience, more than 650 trophies and prizes were given to the meritorious students for their outstanding and distinctive performance in the field of academics, sports and extra-curricular activities.

 

Prof. Anita Kaushal, Principal of the college presented the College Annual Report wherein she highlighted the glorious achievements of the students in multifarious fields at the University, Inter-University, State, National and International levels. She also underlined the contribution of faculty as members of Academic Bodies of Panjab University and their endeavors in research. Enlisting the glorious progress made during the last session, she highlighted that the college has won many awards in Environmental conservation, Sustainable development practices and cleanliness at national and international level. Additionally, the college has been awarded for pioneering efforts towards Tree Plantation, Eat right campus and Beat Covid Campaign, Cyber security drive and Drug De-addiction campaign. Thus, it has carved a niche not only in the region but also in the country. The Principal proudly announced that the college has won Overall Trophy for the Tenth Consecutive Year in Panjab University Zonal Youth & Heritage Festival, and also won the Overall Trophy in 64th PU Inter-Zonal Youth Heritage Festival; College Institution Innovation Council (IIC) has been granted FOUR star status by MoE, Govt. of India and has been conferred with Green Champion Award by MGNCRE Govt. of India.

 

Chief Guest Ms. Monica Bhatia, IRS, herself an alumna of the college, congratulated and gave away the prizes to the students. Lauding the multidimensional achievements of the institution and faculty, Ms. Monica Bhatia, nostalgically recalled her years in her alma mater and applauded the glorious progress made ever since. She gave three pieces of advice garnered from her own experiences; firstly, she advised students to be their own best friend, philosopher, and guide. She said “Listen to your inner voice, trust your instincts”. Secondly, she urged the students to strive for financial independence to become empowered. Finally, she suggested that never allow others to define your identity. She recommended embracing the life with open arms and open hearts.

 

More than 650 prizes were awarded to the students in various categories.

  • 24 students were awarded the College Colour in sports and 26 in extra-curricular activities.
  • 08 students were awarded the Roll of Honour in sports for their achievements in various inter-university, state and national level championships and 59 students were awarded the Roll of Honour for extra-curricular
  • CPL Sonia was awarded the Roll of Honour for NCC.
  • Swati was adjudged as the Best NCC Cadet Air Wing.
  • SUO Riya Sodhi was adjudged as the Best NCC Cadet Army Wing.
  • Diksha Singh was awarded as the Best volunteer of NSS.
  • Ashanveer Kaur was awarded P. Dutta Award for Honesty.
  • Vinnati was adjudged Best in Sports.
  • Priyanka was awarded the Nirmal Vasudeva Scholarship
  • Shreya Rajsi was awarded C. Bhatia Award for being the Best student in Physics.
  • Aayushi was awarded Sharan Makkar Memorial Award for being the outstanding student in Punjabi literature.
  • Anusha Sharma was awarded Harjinder Singh Scholarship.
  • Shivani was awarded Pushpa Verma Scholarship and a medal for standing 1st in M.A-II in P.U. and her performance in Youth Festivals.
  • Aanchal got Pushpa Verma Scholarship and a medal for her performance in Academics and Youth Festivals.
  • Shailja was awarded Dharam Rattan Scholarship.
  • Noreen was awarded Sardarni Devinder Kaur Scholarship.
  • Aanchal & Gagandeep Kaur were awarded Gopal Das Garg Memorial Scholarship for their performance in Music Instrumental and Music Vocal respectively.
  • Aakanksha, Sakshi Chaudhary, Varinda Sharma and Prakriti Thakur were awarded Prabha Kapila Scholarship.
  • Kirpal Kaur was awarded Gursharan Singh Scholarship for excelling in Punjabi language and literature.
  • Karamjeet Kaur was awarded Hardev Singh Ziladar Memorial Scholarship for excelling in Punjabi subject.
  • Jasleen Kaur was awarded Raj Kumar Sharma memorial award for academic excellence in PG Public Administration.
  • Eishika was awarded R.S. Chopra memorial award for best student in PG Chemistry.
  • Mamta Kumari was awarded M.M.Chaudhary memorial scholarship for Chemistry.
  • Shreya Rajsi of B.Sc.-III (N.Med) was declared the All Round Best Student of the college at the Under-graduate level.
  • Eishika of M Sc.-II (Chemistry) was declared the All Round Best Student of the college at the Post-graduate level.

The all round best students were also given the award instituted by Mr. B.S. Ojha IAS (Retd.) in memory of Mrs. Pushpa  Ojha, former Principal of this college.

PGGCG-11 organized A Blood Donation Camp

A Blood Donation Camp was organized by the Blood Donation Society along with NOSTALGIA the Alumni Association of Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector-11 in collaboration with Shree Shiv Kanwar Mahasangh Charitable Trust, Panchkulaand Department of Transfusion Medicine, PGI, Chandigarh on 04.04.2024.

A total of 114 students were registered to donate the blood. Each donor was accorded with a certificate from PGI & Red Cross Society along with a gift and  refreshments. The camp received an overwhelming response from the college staff, students and ended on a successful note.

Prof. Anita Kaushal, Principal of the college appreciated the efforts of the organizers. She praised the donors for their humane concern and the invaluable and life-saving contribution towards the noble cause.

65th Annual Convocation

The 65th Annual Convocation of Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh, was held on 13-03-2024. Professor Jaspal Singh Sandhu, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, was the Chief Guest on the occasion. The Convocation was inaugurated by lighting of the Ceremonial Lamp by the Chief Guest and Principal Prof. Anita Kaushal which was followed by rendition of Saraswati Vandana by the students. It is noteworthy that more than 1300 students completed their Graduation and Post-Graduation during the session 2022-23.

Prof. Anita Kaushal, Principal of the college presented the College Annual Report and outlined the illustrious achievements of the students in academics, co-curricular activities and sports. She also underlined the contribution of Faculty as members of Academic Bodies of Panjab University and highlighted their endeavors in research and publications. Enlisting the glorious progress made during the last session, she highlighted that the college has won many awards in Environmental conservation, Sustainable development practices and cleanliness at national and international level. Congratulating the Graduates and Post-Graduates in his Convocation Address, Prof Jaspal Singh Sandhu narrated anecdotes from his personal and professional life, and motivated them to walk a straight line without succumbing to any pressure. They should make their own path and endeavour to become financially independent without being dependent even on parents.

In the Graduate category, B.A.(Honours and Pass Course); B.Com (Honours and Pass Course); BCA; Science graduates in B.Sc. Honours, B.Sc. Medical, B.Sc. Non-Medical and B.Sc. Computer Science were conferred degrees. Post-Graduate degrees were awarded in Psychology, Public Administration, Economics, Dance, Music Vocal, Music Instrumental, Sociology, English, Fine Arts, M.Com, Information Technology, Botany, Physics, Zoology, Chemistry, and Computer Applications.

More than 70 students of the college who excelled and secured positions in College as well as Panjab University Examinations were felicitated on the occasion. 15 students who stood first in the Panjab University examinations were awarded Medals, and 27 were decorated with Roll of Honour by the Chief Guest for their outstanding achievements.

PGGCG-11 organized a National Seminar on “Financial Inclusion in North-western region in India”

Post Graduate Department of Economics of PG Government College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh organized a National Seminar on “Financial Inclusion in North-western region in India” on 06-03-2024. The seminar was sponsored by ICSSR North Western Region Chandigarh.  More than one hundred delegates registered for the seminar.

While introducing the topic, Principal Prof. Anita Kaushal expressed that although a rapid growth has been witnessed in the financial sector all over the world, but the exclusion of a major segment of population from coverage of basic financial services is a big problem. Prof B.S. Ghuman, Former Vice Chancellor, Punjabi University, in his Keynote address felt that Financial Inclusion is necessary to reduce poverty, and to speed up economic development. Prof. Sanjay Kaushik, Dean College Development Council, PU and Honorary Director, ICSSR NW Region Chandigarh the Chief Guest on the occasion, observed that Financial Inclusion reinforces human development by creating economic opportunities to the poor. It was highlighted that globally 24 percent, in developing nations 29 percent of adults have no bank account. Gender gap in account ownership is concerned globally 22 percent of men, 26 percent of women have no bank account. The situation is worse in most of the emerging nations.

A book ‘Decent work in India’ was also released in the seminar, which has been edited by the present and retired faculty members Dr. Seepana Prakasam, Ms.Vinita Rao and Ms. Gurpreet Kaur. The book covers components such as promoting jobs, guaranteeing rights at work, social protection and promoting social dialogue.

Prof. Harsh Gandhar, Director, Centre for Distance and Open Learning, Panjab University, and Dr. Shashi Kant Associate Professor (Retd.) conducted the Technical Session. Prof. Gulshan Kumar, University Institute of Legal Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh in his Valedictory Address observed that due to an underdeveloped financial system and limited access to standard banking services, people and enterprises rely on informal sources of credit. Sixty research papers were presented by the students, research scholars and other  delegates from different parts of India covering 25 sub themes such as Financial literacy, Role of banks and government, Jan Dhan Yojna in financial inclusion, Credit flow to MSMEs etc.

PGGCG-11 organised “BIZFEST” an Inter College Competition

The Commerce Department of P.G. Government College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh organised BIZFEST on 04-03-2024. The program started with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp and the invocation of Goddess Saraswati. Inter-college competitions in various domains such as Business Quiz, Just a Minute, Ad-Mad Show, Poster-making etc. were held on the occasion. The event was inaugurated by Prof.(Dr) Anita Kaushal, Principal of the college. Mr. Ajay Kumar Sharma, Dean, Prof. Guneeta Chadha, Vice-Principal and faculty members of various colleges graced the occasion.

Participants from various colleges of the city displayed their academic potential, creative skills and imaginative talent in the contests. Students also presented songs and self-composed poems which were highly applauded by the audience. Western Dance, solo dance and songs enthralled the audience.

Addressing the students on the occasion, Prof. (Dr.) Anita Kaushal instilled a sense of enthusiasm, inspiring the students to embrace a balanced approach to their educational journey. By emphasizing the value of holistic development and the symbiotic relationship between academics and co-curricular, she encouraged them to strive for excellence in all aspects of their lives.
